The Database of Modern Icelandic Inflection (DMII or BÍN) is a collection of paradigms accessible on the website of The Árni Magnússon Institute for Icelandic Studies. The database contains 278,994 paradigms. The term Modern Icelandic here refers to contemporary Icelandic, i.e. late 20th and 21st century usage.
DMII is available for use in two different ways:
When citing DMII please use the following format: Beygingarlýsing íslensks nútímamáls. [The Database of Modern Icelandic Inflection.] (n.d.) Kristín Bjarnadóttir, editor. The Árni Magnússon Institute for Icelandic Studies. Accessed ddmmyyy from bin.arnastofnun.is.
The original purpose of the DMII was the production of a description of Icelandic inflection, to be used in language technology, in lexicography, and in linguistic research. From the outset, an online version for the general public was also intended. Work on the project started in 2002.
More information on DMII can be found on the project home page.
